Tickets are now on sale for CSA Theatre compANY's upcoming production of Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. This thrilling theatrical treat will take the main stage at the F. Ritchie Walton Performing Arts Center at Marion High School at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 and 9 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 10.
This infamous tale follows Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, as he returns to 19th Century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up — and the carnage has only just begun!
Sweeney Todd has become a bloody, worldwide success since being awarded eight Tony Awards (including Best Musical), for its Broadway premiere. Stephen Sondheim's and Hugh Wheeler's tasty, thrilling, theatrical treat has simultaneously shocked, awed and delighted audiences across the world. This special School Edition has been masterfully adapted, working directly with Mr. Sondheim to retain the dark wit and grand scope of the original work, with a few lyric and key changes for younger performers. A challenging score of epic proportion remains the core of the production.
Tickets for the performances can be purchased at www.csa-marion.com/tickets or at Marion Community School of the Arts, 305 S. Adams Street, Marion, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
