CSA’S Civic Theatre presents Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Aug. 21-23
Filled with unforgettable music, vibrant storytelling, and boundless energy, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat tells the inspiring biblical story of Joseph, a young dreamer blessed with extraordinary gifts. When jealousy from his brothers changes the course of his life, Joseph embarks on an incredible journey that takes him from hardship and adversity to triumph and redemption. Featuring a wide variety of musical styles, colorful characters, and beloved songs, this family-friendly musical celebrates the power of perseverance, hope, and forgiveness. Marion High School presents The Music Man, Oct. 2-3
By turns wicked, funny, warm, romantic and touching, The Music Man is family entertainment at its best. Meredith Willson's six-time Tony Award-winning musical comedy has been entertaining audiences since 1957. Fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill sets his sights on an easy mark: the town of River City, Iowa. But things don’t go exactly as he planned when he falls for the local librarian. With heartfelt tunes including the rousing march “Seventy-six Trombones”, the wistful “Good Night My Someone”, the folksy “Wells Fargo Wagon”, the classic love song “Till There Was You”, and of course the comedic “Gary, Indiana”, this show is is a must-see! MHS Arts Hall of Fame induction at the Night of Giants, Sept. 25
As part of the Marion Giants’ Homecoming Weekend, the Night of Giants alumni honors will celebrate the inductees into the Marion High School Hall of Distinction, the Giants Athletics Hall of Fame, and the Giants Arts Hall of Fame. Two Marion High School alumni will be inducted into the Arts Hall of Fame this year: Mark Russell, Class of 1969 (inducted posthumously), who was an internationally known violinmaker; and Jena (Jones) Adrianson, Class of 1970, a longtime music educator. The Night of Giants honors will start at 5 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Walton, just prior to the Marion Giants’ homecoming football game. This event is free and open to the public. CSA Theatre compANY presents Hadestown, Nov. 6-8
Anaïs Mitchell's haunting, jazz-inflected folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone — Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, this beguiling musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Kate Hamill’s playful adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters after their father’s death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. Set in gossipy late 18th-century England, this classic story examines human reactions, both reasonable and ridiculous, to societal pressures. Marion Community School of the Arts’s iCreate gallery features the work of their visual arts students of all ages, from drawing and painting, to mixed media, to sculpture, ceramics and more, along with the work of theatre production students, such as costuming, wigs and makeup, scenic design, and more. It also includes collaborative art projects to which attendees can add their own creative touches. The gallery will be on display June 11-12, and the reception will be on June 12.
